Thiruvananthapuram: As the monsoon intensifies across the state, 5,792 people have sought refuge in 209 relief camps opened across various districts. The continuous heavy downpour has caused severe waterlogging in low-lying areas and sparked fears of landslides in the hilly regions. In response to the worsening situation, the State Disaster Management Authority has swiftly moved residents from vulnerable spots to safety. Local self-government bodies and the revenue department are working together to ensure that these relief camps are well-equipped with essential emergency supplies, including food, clean drinking water, and medicines. Furthermore, special medical assistance has been arranged to care for vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and pregnant women.
The torrential rains have already forced water into many homes and resulted in widespread crop damage. Revenue officials are remaining vigilant, continuously monitoring the situation in high-risk areas through dedicated control rooms. With the meteorological department issuing strict weather alerts across multiple districts, the State Disaster Management Authority has strongly urged those living near riverbanks and massive rock formations to follow official safety guidelines without fail. Meanwhile, efforts to safely evacuate more people from danger zones are still actively underway.
