Director General of Police Nitin Agarwal will retire from service this Friday. A farewell parade organised by the police force to honour him will take place at 8:00 AM on the 31st at the SAP Parade Ground in Peroorkada. He currently serves as the Director General of the Fire and Rescue Services. Nitin Agarwal belongs to the 1989 batch of the Indian Police Service. He holds an M.Tech degree from IIT Delhi and an M.Phil degree from Panjab University. Over his long career, he received the Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2007 and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2014.
He has also earned several gold medals and commendation letters from various armed force divisions. Nitin Agarwal started his official career as an Assistant Superintendent of Police in Thalassery in Kannur district. He later served in Adoor and Kollam before receiving a promotion to the rank of Superintendent of Police. As an SP, he headed district police forces in Idukki, Palakkad, Kannur, and Alappuzha. He served as a commandant for the KAP 3rd Battalion, SAP, SRAF, and the KAP 5th Battalion. He also worked in the Vigilance Department and served as the ADC responsible for the security of the Kerala Governor.
As a Deputy Inspector General, he managed the Kannur and Thiruvananthapuram ranges, along with assignments in the Crime Branch and Vigilance. His career progressed further as he took charge of the State Crime Records Bureau, served as ADGP for the Northern Zone, and worked across the Armed Police Battalion and Crime Branch. After receiving his promotion to the DGP rank and returning to Kerala, he also served as the Road Safety Commissioner. Beyond state service, he held key DIG and IG positions in various Central Armed Police Forces. He served as an ADGP in the Central Reserve Police Force and also served as the Director General of the Border Security Force.
