Today, the nation observes Kargil Vijay Diwas, commemorating the unforgettable valor and selflessness of the Indian Armed Forces who shed their blood in the Himalayan heights to defend our motherland’s sovereignty and borders. On July 26, 1999, overcoming the harsh, adverse conditions and extreme cold of the Himalayan ranges, the Indian Army achieved a historic victory by driving out all enemy infiltrators who had illegally occupied the Kargil border.
In a deeply emotional atmosphere, the entire country pays tribute to the brave martyrs who fought standing guard for the nation, placing their very lives on the line. The unparalleled sacrifice and courage of the soldiers who gave their lives in that bloody battle of 1999 remain an unquenchable flame in the heart of every Indian.
Along with reminding us of the selfless service and uncompromising patriotism of our troops guarding the borders, this day serves as a significant symbol proclaiming India’s unbreakable unity and strength to the world. Diverse events are being organized across the country to pay homage to the memory of the Indian soldiers who stood firm like rock in the freezing cold and struck back at the heart of the enemy.
